Grounds Services
Compost Recycling The Messiah Grounds Services department is engaged in a full grounds waste recycling program. All grounds waste generated on campus is recycled and put back into use on campus. All grass clippings, sheared shrub clippings, leaves and old mulch are stock piled at an on campus recycling location. Green material is placed in row 1 (green row) and periodically turned for proper aging. We maintain 3 rows of material, green, in process and ready for use material. The ready for use material is then used campus wide for planting, seeding and landscaping. Some of the material is fine screened for use as top dress for our athletic fields. Additionally , all hardwood from tree and large shrub cuttings are stock piled for a two year period, at the end of two years this pile is ground up into wood chips by an outside vendor and used on campus for trails, fitness course and under trees and wooded areas around campus. Recycling all campus grounds waste makes good sense and provides the campus with its own compost, top dress material and wood chips. If you have any questions concerning this program contact the Grounds Services Manager at 691-6051. |
