Fall studentsThis section represents your Financial Aid Application packet for the 2012-2013 academic year and contains all the information you need to know regarding the Financial Aid Process. Please start out by reading the Application Packet Cover Letter and the Financial Aid Instructions, and then move on to the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.

To complete your FAFSA, click the Complete

Your FAFSA button to the right of this page.

You can view another helpful tutorial on using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, while completing your FAFSA on the Web, at IRS Data Retrieval tutorial.  This tutorial is helpful when completing your initial FAFSA, or when going back later to use the Data Retrieval Tool if you did not use it during your initial filing.  For more information on the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, please visit the Hot Items section of our Financial Aid Instructions.  (Note: the IRS Data Retrieval Tool tutorial is not a U.S. Department of Education website).

You might have also received an email from the Financial Aid Office pointing out other forms from the list below which you should complete.

In addition to completing the forms in this packet, we recommend that all students review the Scholarships page. This link will allow you to learn more about Messiah College's institutional scholarships and to search for scholarships from a wide range of private organizations.  Every student should try this scholarship search at least once.

Note: All documents available from the links below are in PDF format, unless otherwise specified.

VERIFICATION WORKSHEET

Use this worksheet if the United States Department of Education has selected your FAFSA for review in a process called Verification.

VERIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS AND WORKSHEET

(The U.S. Department of Education has approved a temporary solution for aid applicants who have unsuccessfully attempted to use the IRS Tax Data Retrieval Tool or to obtain IRS Tax Return transcripts. If you attempted  to use both the Data Retrieval Tool and to obtain transcripts, yet have been unable to do so, please send a signed copy of your 2011 IRS 1040 Federal Tax Return. We must receive signed tax returns by Monday July 9, 2012 in order to qualify for the exception.  After that date, the requirement will revert to use of the IRS Tax Data Retrieval Tool or submission of the IRS Tax Return transcripts.)

Current students: Do not complete this form unless the Financial Aid Office instructs you to do so.  Students will be notified via email if verification documents are required.

Freshmen and new transfer students: Each year, some students who file a FAFSA are selected in the Federal government's verification process. Ordinarily, we wait until we know that a student has been selected for verification, and then we send a letter telling the student they are selected and listing the forms that need to be sent to our office. For incoming students, the process of requesting these forms can delay the completion of the financial aid package by several weeks or more. Therefore, if you wish to avoid this possible delay, you can send us the Verification Worksheet below and the forms listed in the Verification Forms section of the Financial Aid Instructions so that we will already have these forms on file if we find that you are selected for verification. You are not required to send these forms unless you are selected for verification; we are simply offering you the option of doing this now so that you can avoid possible delays if you are selected.
