Safety & Security / Fire Safety
Out of sincere concern for student and employee safety and to be in compliance with federal regulations, Messiah College is required to: 1) notify students and employees (via a Campus Timely Warning Notice) if a crime that could pose a continuing threat to campus has been reported to a College administrator, and 2) publish an annual Campus Security Report as well as an annual Campus Fire Safety Report.
Campus Timely Warning Notices will be clearly marked and will most often be sent via mass email to your college email address. College administrators might also communicate via the College’s text message alert system (sign up on MC Square); the College’s emergency blog (http://messiah911.wordpress.com); College websites; residence hall announcements; Channel 6; and public postings. Notices will include information about any additional safety precautions you should take.
Messiah’s annual Campus Security Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety and includes such topics as crime prevention programs; Department of Safety law enforcement authority; crime and emergency reporting policies; access to College residences; sexual assault prevention; timely warnings of emergencies; disciplinary procedures; and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus. The report also contains Messiah’s crime statistics for the three previous calendar years. This report can be found on the Department of Safety website http://www.messiah.edu/offices/safety/ or a paper copy can be obtained by calling ext. 6005. Information on how to report a crime, including the link to report anonymously can be found at http://www.messiah.edu/offices/safety/Reporting-a-crime.html
The Campus Fire Safety Report outlines campus fire safety practices, standards, and certain fire-related, on-campus housing statistics. This report can be obtained on the Office of Environmental Health and Safety website http://www.messiah.edu/offices/facility_services/health-safety/fire-safety.html or by calling ext. 3560.
