Heritage Society Coordinator

The Department of Development currently has an opening for the position of Heritage Society Coordinator. This full time, 12 month, administrative position is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating and soliciting a specific group of Heritage Society members and prospects in order to secure immediate and long-term gift revenue required by the institution.

Education and experience includes a Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred professional certification(s) such as CPA, CFP, CFRE, etc. and 2 - 4 years in major gifts, planned giving, foundation experience, and/or direct sales.

Other requirements include: Ability to increase membership in the Heritage Society; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Listening skills; Ability to work with a wide range of personalities and build relationships; Excellent judgment; Self-motivated; Ability to handle multiple tasks with organization and flexibility; Possess and maintain an introductory knowledge of various charitable giving techniques and their relevant income and estate tax implications; Strong planning and organizational skills. Must be willing to travel; some work on evenings and weekends is required, especially for special events.

Job Description

Position Title
: Heritage Society Coordinator

Department: Development

Reports To: Senior Advisor for College Development Principal Gifts

Supervises: None

Position Summary: This position is responsible to identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit a specific group of Heritage Society members and prospects in order to secure immediate and long-term gift revenue required by the institution.

Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree required; preferred professional certification(s) such as CPA, CFP, CFRE, etc.

Experience Required: 2 - 4 years in major gifts, planned giving, foundation experience, and/or direct sales.

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position:

  • Demonstrated ability to increase membership in the Heritage Society
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; listening skills
  • Ability to work with a wide range of personalities and relationships; sound judgment
  • Self-motivated; ability to handle multiple tasks with organization and flexibility
  • Knowledgeable of various charitable giving techniques and their relevant income and estate tax implications; commitment to maintaining currency in field
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

Special Working Conditions: Must be willing to travel; some work on evenings and weekends is required, especially for special events.

Primary Duties

1. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a specific group of deferred giving prospects (alumni, parents, and friends) in order to:

a. Request to add College in will or to name College beneficiary of a financial/estate instrument;
b. Promote charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts;
c. Introduce prospects to our Financial and Estate Planning Services;
d. Encourage the creation of endowed scholarships.

2. Manage the budget for this position.

3. Host or attend special donor events; work with internal constituents to help coordinate key events.

4. Represent Messiah College to a variety of constituencies, groups, and individuals for the purpose of introducing Messiah College.

5. Keep current on charitable giving techniques and their tax implications.

6. Ensure that an institutional record of key contacts/conversations/communication is properly documented.

7. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

Secondary Duties

1. Cultivate relationships with attorneys, accountants, and other allied professions to generate leads as directed by supervisor.

2. Attend the meetings of Development and Advancement Division staff as required.

3. Other duties as assigned.
