Sculpture and Three Dimensional Studies Department of Visual Arts School of the Arts (Posting Date: 08/31/09) The Department of Visual Arts in the School of the Arts at Messiah College invites applications for a full-time/term-tenure track faculty position in Sculpture and Three Dimensional Studies.
Responsibilities: Teach a variety of courses for the department of Visual Arts including: foundations level Form Space and Media, Construction and Assemblage, Carving, Casting, Furniture, Ceramics Sculpture and capstone courses with opportunity to teach graduate level sculpture in the MA in Education curriculum. Faculty will have advising and institutional service responsibilities as well as continuing in their own scholarship. Qualifications: MFA in Sculpture with excellent exhibition record and previous college teaching experience. Candidate should have a commitment to excellence in teaching in a Christian Liberal Arts setting and to continued engagement in their field of sculpture. The Department of Visual Arts is a community of learners and teachers dedicated to the creation, interpretation, and encouragement of the visual arts through the study of art education, art history, studio art and arts management. We strive together for mastery in concept development, technique, method, pedagogy, research, and criticism. We develop our abilities to appreciate, comprehend, and assess the myriad forms of artistic expression in the past, present, and future. As Christian artists, educators, and scholars, we examine issues of aesthetics, quality, professional practice, and ethics as we seek to determine and define the place of art and the artist in both the Christian environment and the larger culture. The Department offers four under graduate degrees: Studio art, Art Education, Art History and Arts Management. The Department is also seeking accreditation from the Department of Education to offer a Masters of Art in Art Education. The studio and art education programs offer three main areas of concentration: Graphics and Technology –graphic design & computer art, Mixed Media—ceramics, furniture, paper process, sculpture and textiles, and Two Dimensional Studies—drawing, painting, photography, printmaking. We are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design) and Pennsylvania Department of Education.Starting Date for Position: Fall 2010 Compensation: Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
