1. Click Tools
2. Click Rules
3. Click New |

4. Type a name in the Rule Name box.
5. In the "When Event Is" field, popup
list select an event type that will trigger the rule (The "New Item"
type is selected in this example). Mark whether the items are to
restricted to Received, Sent, Posted and/or Draft ("Received" is
shown in example).
6. Check mark the type of item you
want to trigger the rule. If the rule will be doing something with
incoming e-mail, select Mail. If the rule is processing Appointments,
select Appointment, etc.
7. Since you do not want every e-mail
message, appointment, etc., being effected by the rule, you now
need to define the conditions that will cause the rule to take effect. |

8. In defining the conditions, select
the desired field which will contain the condition.
9. Type in the text associated with the field you just selected that will trigger the rule. |

Example:
If you regularly receive an e-mail which has a standard subject line, such as the electronic director's report as shown to the right, you would select "Subject" and type the text 2940 since 2940 is text that typically does not change in the subject line for the e-mails with the EDR attachments. |

| 10. Click OK to accept your newly defined conditions. |

11. Click Add Action and select
the action you want the rule to perform. In this example we have
selected "Move to Folder" as the action that should be taken.
12. Click the box to the left of the
folder you want the items to be moved to (a check-mark will be displayed
in the box when selected).
13. Upon selecting the folder, click
on the Move button.Click on the "Save" button in the
lower right-hand corner of the New Rule window. |

14. Once you have saved your new rule,
you will be returned to the "Rules" window. Active rules will be
check-marked. To activate a rule, select it and click on the "Run"
button.
15. When you are finished, click on
the close button to return to GroupWise. |
