JunkMail Handling in GroupWise 6.5
Use Junk Mail Handling to decide what to do with unwanted Internet e-mail that is sent to your GroupWise e-mail address. Internet e-mail includes all e-mail where the sender’s address is in the form of name@domain.com, name@domain.org, and so forth.
Junk Mail Handling does not apply to internal e-mail. Internal e-mail is e-mail where the sender is
part of the Messiah College GroupWise system and the From field shows only the name of the sender, not an Internet address as explained above. If you want to block or junk internal e-mail, you can use
Rules. Enabling Junk Mail Handling
All e-mail users, at one time or another, receive unwanted commercial messages in their e-mail Inboxes. These messages are called "junk mail" or "spam". Messiah College utilizes an application named Spam Assassin to filter out most Spam mail received from the Internet. For more information on SpamAssassin, click here. To login to SpamAssassin and configure your account, click here.
GroupWise 6.5 provides Junk Mail Handling to deal with unwanted messages, including spam. Junk Mail Handling takes action on unwanted messages based on the e-mail address of the sender. You can set up Junk Mail Handling to automatically move messages from specific senders to a Junk Mail folder and to block messages from other senders from ever reaching your Mailbox in the first place. You can also create a Trust List of senders from whom you will always accept messages.
To create a Junk Mail folder and begin moving unwanted items into it, follow these directions. Items from other Messiah College GroupWise users cannot be automatically sent to the Junk Mail folder.
- Click Actions on the GroupWise main menu bar.
- Choose Junk Mail | Junk Mail Handling...
- Click the Settings tab.
- Click the box next to either option under "Junk Mail" to enable Junk Mail Handling.
If you choose Enable Junk List, only those messages from senders you add to your Junk List will be sent to the Junk Mail folder.
If you choose Enable Junk Mail using personal address books, messages from any sender not listed in the Novell GroupWise Address Book or one of your ersonal address books (the book with your name on it and the Frequent Contacts address book) will be sent to the Junk Mail folder.
- Click the box next to Automatically delete items to have GroupWise move your junk mail to the Trash folder after a specified period of time.
- Click the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the amount of time junk mail stays in your Junk Mail folder.
- Click OK or press Enter.
IMPORTANT: Regularly check your Junk Mail folder for wanted messages that were entered there. If you want to receive future messages from a sender relegated to the Junk Mail folder, add them to your Trust List.
Blocking messages from any sender means that you will not receive messages from that sender. They will not show up in your account at all, not even in the Trash folder. Make sure you do not want any messages from a blocked sender before adding their e-mail address to your Block List. You cannot block messages from other GroupWise users at Messiah College.
- Click Actions on the GroupWise main menu bar.
- Choose Junk Mail | Junk Mail Handling...
- Click the Settings tab.
- Click the box next to Enable Block List.
- Click OK or press Enter.
If you chose Enable Junk List above, begin adding senders to that list. GroupWise will know to deliver future messages from those senders to your Junk Mail folder. If you chose Enable Block List above, begin adding senders to that list. GroupWise will not deliver future messages from those senders to you. Add senders to your Trust List to always receive messages they send to you.
Note: You will always receive messages from other Messiah College GroupWise users. You do not need to add them to your Trust List.
