Quickstart Guide for Messiah Employees

Welcome to Messiah College. The information found on this page is designed to get you up and running with the most frequently asked questions and their respective answers. If you have additional questions pertaining to campus computer technology, network access, etc. please feel free to email or call x4444.

First Steps...

How do I change my primary Messiah College password?

Employees are required to change their initial password using the Online Password Change form at We recommend your password only be changed from an network cable connected (not wireless), campus computer. In accordance with our college password policy, users must change their password at least once every six months. After you have changed your password, our system will automatically notify you several times of the need to choose a new password before the six month cycle ends. Failure to change your password before the end of the six month period will result in your account being locked.

NOTE: Do not share your password with others. Keep your password in a secure location. ITS does not keep a record of passwords.

Password Security Questions and why you should set them up TODAY!

MCSquare Login

It is very important that you set up your Password Security Questions as soon as possible in the event you forget your password at some point. Being able to answer your questions will allow you to reset your forgotten password via the link in the blue login box on the MCSquare login page and forego delays which may prove cumbersome and inconvenient.

To set up your security questions...

  1. Login to MCSquare
  2. Click on the "Home" tab.
  3. In the "Need to Know" section, near the upper left of the "Home" page, locate the "My Security Questions" link and click on it to begin the process.

Details can be found at:

Configure your mobile devices to access your Messiah College email account.

Setting up your Outlook email on iOS based devices (iPhone, iPad, etc.) is straightforward due to Apple's Exchange ready technology. Android and Blackberry devices can vary from device model to device model and can be more challenging to configure.

The basics that you will need to be aware of are that our email system uses the following:

  1. Microsoft Exchange server.
  2. Your Messiah username (your full messiah email address)
  3. Your Messiah password

Typically, this is all the information you may need to provide for your device's email setup wizard. If you receive a "redirection" or "Certificate" messages, simply accept/allow them and the wizard should complete the installation. Additional assistance can be found at

Storage of your electronic files...

An explanation regarding Network Storage for your personal and department files.

All Messiah College employees have network file storage space for their personal and departmental (shared) files. Files stored on our network are regularly backed up by our networking staff, therefore, you are encouraged to keep a copy of your files in one of these locations in the event of equipment theft or failure. Please be aware that Messiah's data security policy does not allow you to keep potentially confidential data on other portable storage devices such as thumb drives, portable external hard drives, etc.

The differentiation of the network file storage is as follows:

  • M: - the storage location for files that are non-personal in nature which may be shared with others in your department. These files would include departmental communications, manuals, procedures, etc.
  • O: - the storage location for files that are your personal files which you do not need to share with others. These files may include time sheets, personal documents, etc.
  • Class File Storage for Educators. It is highly recommended that file storage for classes be done in Canvas. A significant benefit to doing so is that, unlike files stored on the network, files stored in Canvas can be accessed whether on campus or off campus when the user is logged into their Canvas account. This can be especially helpful to students who do not live on campus.

Storage space is limited and the expectation is that you manage the files for which you are responsible, whether they are on the M: or O: network shares. In an effort to be good stewards of our resources, please delete/remove files that are no longer applicable or significant.

Accessing Messiah's Network from Off Campus...

VPN Access the college network from Off Campus.

Using a VPN (virtual private network) client, users with Messiah College network accounts are able to access the college network off campus as if they were on campus. Please keep in mind, remote access from any location is subject to Internet connectivity that is beyond our control; this includes interruptions, speed and performance.

Instructions for configuring VPN on your Windows computer can be found here.
