Student File Space Access

Note: The terms username and password in this document refer to your email/mcsquare username and password.
  • Accessing your filespace from a Windows Lab computer

Students who use their Messiah username and password to login to the lab computers will have their filespace mapped automatically to the K: drive and the Q: drive. You can get to it by selecting the filespace icon from the Start Menu under Messiah Programs, Network Services.

If you get this message: "The path K:\ does not exist or is not a directory", then your filespace was not mapped. The most likely causes of this are not using your Messiah login or you are not a student. If your K: drive is not mapping when it should, please email resnet@messiah.edu or call x5901 and tell us about it.

  • Accessing your filespace in Windows XP and Vista*, using the Filespace Applet (on campus only)

If you had your computer set up by Student Computer Services, you should have an icon on your desktop titled "Messiah Filespace." You can use this icon to access your filespace.

Double-click the icon on the desktop titled "Messiah Filespace"

  1. Enter your Messiah username and your password.

  2. Click Connect. After a couple seconds, a window should appear with your folder inside.

  3. When you are finished working with your files, double-click the "Messiah Filespace" icon again and click Disconnect.
  • Accessing your K: Drive by mapping a network drive in Windows XP and Vista*
If you wish to map your K: Drive to a different letter or have it automatically try and reconnect each time you log into your computer you will need to set it up as a mapped network drive. To do this please follow the instructions below:
  1. Right-click on "My Computer" and choose to "Map Network Drive..."
  2. Use the drop down menu to pick which letter you want to use for access of your filespace.
  3. Then type in \\MYFILES\home as the folder.
  4. If you desire this mapping every time you log into windows choose "Reconnect at Login" by checking it.
  5. You will be prompted for your username and password. Enter these and your filespace should appear.
  • Using FTP to access your filespace (Off campus only)

To access the K: drive:

Open web browser and type: ftp://username@ftp.messiah.edu/../../users/

You might need to refresh the page to get the prompt. You will be prompted for your password. Enter your password and you should have access to all folders on your K: drive.

To access the Q: drive:

Open web browser and type: ftp://username@ftp.messiah.edu/../../class/

You might need to refresh the page to get the prompt. You will be prompted for your password. Enter your password and you should have access to all folders on your Q: drive.

*Using the filespace applet in Vista requires a registry patch. If your computer was setup in Student Compuer Services after 7/16/07, then it already has this patch. Otherwise, you may download it here. Right-click and save the file to your desktop, then double click it. Once the patch is acomplete, you may delete the file from your desktop.

  • Using MCSquare to access your filespace

Open your web browser and go to http://mcsquare.messiah.edu. Log in using your Messiah username and password. Click the "MyFiles" button, this will open up a new window.

In the new window there will be a menu on the left. Click "DriveK@USERS" to access the files on your K-drive or click "DriveQ@CLASS" to access your Q-drive.

To download a file right click on the file name and select download.
