The Drug Dealer Next Door Elizabeth Nickerson
Now, for those unfamiliar with the ‘hood,
The pimp walk is a very particular mode of locomotion.
The arms do not swing, but are starched stiff
Sticking into cavernous pockets that know no borders.
Pride is displayed not by straightness of back or
Raising of the chin, but
By lowering oneself to the dust to the furthest limits
As though aware of how one walking this path
Must indeed be ever precarious of
Returning to the earth from which one came.
Now, moving forward
Requires a certain kick, a certain bounce:
With each footfall slouching into an impressive
Squat. What a tremendous thigh exercise.
Surely these thighs are what give semi-thugs
Their inveigling illusion of power.
