Minnemingo Review

To Miss Keller                                                Kaylee Schofield

Not for nothing did I leave you
Out to dry, a lemon hem of
Dishfoam at your crown, hung
Upside-down. I scalded your grime
With rinsing, but blink you did
Not. I filed your knees and thighs
But even under pain of
Steel wool and loofah and sponge
You did not scream. I dunked you into
The grey deep of the bath your
Mother used to christen her weary
Cups-half-full but your feet did
Not cease their kicking, and
I kept you out to dry tonight—
Dish-murk cataracts spindling groundward—
So that tomorrow’s Irish sunshine
Would not be lost on you.
