Messiah College celebrates Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration during the week surrounding the national Dr. King holiday in January each year. Through special lectures, films, discussions, and service projects the campus and surrounding community are invited to reflect on the vision and Christian ministry of Dr. King for the purpose of encouraging and cultivating a deeper commitment to be God's agent of justice, peace, and reconciliation. This Student Affairs Focus Week is sponsored by the President's Office, Office of Multicultural Programs, Agape Center, and College Ministries.

Please join us as we celebrate International Women's Day with a documentary by Kum-Kum Bhavnani entitled The Shape of Water. Followed by a reception and a panel discussion with five women from various parts of the world. During this time they will be sharing with us their stories and exploring how we can continue to promote the collective power of women as we think globally and act locally.
Film Synopsis:
In an intimate encounter with five very different women in Brazil, India, Jerusalem, and Senegal (narrated by Susan Sarandon with introductory narration co-written by Edwidge Danticat) The Shape of Water offers a close look at the far reaching and vibrant alternatives crafted by women in response to environmental degradation, archaic traditions, lack of economic independence and war. By revealing the women's revolutionary actions The Shape of Water offers a unique view of the complex realities faced by these unsung visionaries creating a more just world. Juniata College is proud to host the annual Pennsylvania National Association for Multicultural Education (PA-NAME) Conference on April 3rd and 4th of 2009. With PA-NAME, our goal is to create an environment of acceptance, understanding, and community building by featuring numerous pedagogical experts, workshops and performances from which we can all learn.
Educational justice is a process of renewal and regeneration of the struggle for just causes in public and private education, not a set of target numbers in an institutional planning document. It is about opening and reopening the doors that have denied opportunity for economic, social, sexual and spiritual expression in all areas of modern society. This conference will be about our own renewal and regeneration in part, but in a greater portion it will be about garnering a new set of tools to sustain and expand the progress made in the last forty years in multicultural education.
To attend the conference,

The Damascus Road Training gives students the opportunity to participate in a 2 1/2 days of training that explores the complexity of racism and how we, as a faith-based community can work together using biblical resources to reconcile the issue of racism. The training uses a biblical framework for dismantling racism, such as using bible stories to explore the themes of brokenness, identity, and healing. Their primary mission is to prepare participants to become agents of change in their home, church, community and institutions.
