Dr. King Commemoration

Messiah College celebrates Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration during the week surrounding the national Dr. King holiday in January each year. Through special lectures, films, discussions, and service projects the campus and surrounding community are invited to reflect on the vision and Christian ministry of Dr. King for the purpose of encouraging and cultivating a deeper commitment to be God's agent of justice, peace, and reconciliation. This Student Affairs Focus Week is sponsored by the President's Office, Office of Multicultural Programs, and Agape Center, and planned by a campus-wide committee.

Black History Month

Our mission is to provide a forum where we can learn about an unspoken history in the United States and add different perspectives to the retelling of our past. This month will incorporate film, cultural celebrations, and speakers that will engage the community in a much needed conversation on the existing realities of African Americans and the African Diaspora both in the U.S. and internationally.

The Sider Institute's Annual Peace Lectures at Messiah College

Rev. Marta Benavides is the guest speaker for this event. She is a spiritual leader who has led many initiatives towards peace in El Salvador.

Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month

May is National Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which we will be celebrating in April so we can include this important observance during the academic year. The mission of this month is to provide a forum where we can learn about an unspoken history in the US and add different perspectives to the retelling of our past. This month will incorporate film, cultural celebrations, and speakers that will engage the community in a much needed conversation on the existing realities of Asian-Americans, Pacific Islanders and persons from across the Asian continent.

Cultural Explosion

This community-wide celebration of cultures provides a spectacular evening, perfect for a family outing full of cultural education and fun. Over the past six years, cultural explosion has celebrated nearly one hundred cultures through fashion shows, dance performances, poetry, artists, vocalist, video presentations and much more! This is an event that you will not want to miss.

OMP Welcome Reception 2007
Incoming students are invited to a special welcome reception hosted by the Office of Multicultural Programs to help them begin their cultural and social transition to Messiah College life; become familiar with our office, staff, and faculty; and connect with resources and people from across campus who can offer advising and support during their time at Messiah. We will be presenting our program initiatives, resources, and student leaders, and we will have a time to dialogue on our expectations for and commitments to our students. We hope you will continue making these connections and introductions by participating in The NET throughout the year.

OMP Leadership Retreat

OMP Leadership Retreat 2007This day and half retreat is led by the Office of Multicultural Programs for all student leaders of multicultural organizations, incoming Martin Scholars, Multicultural Ambassadors, OMP Work-Study staff, and ReCON House members. It is an

intentional time to develop relationships with one another in order to work collaboratively during the school year. Transportation, accommodations, and food during this time is provided at no cost for all that attend.

During our time together we will be covering in greater detail the followingr:

  1. Movement building
  2. Leadership development
  3. How to talk about tough issues on campus
  4. Time for fellowship among student leaders

Homecoming 2006 The Office of Multicultural Programs would  like to encourage all alumni, family, and friends to attend our open house during Homecoming Day 2008. As Messiah College prepares to celebrate 100 years of service and mission in 2009, we invite our alumni to contribute your stories and your voices to our reflections on its past, its present, and its vision for the future. NCMSLC Student Leaders' Conference

The National Christian Multicultural Student Leaders' Conference is an annual national conference aimed at bringing together Christian college students interested in multicultural awareness and healing racism. The conference was founded at Messiah College, and rotates each year between different CCCU schools. The Office of Multicultural Programs at Messiah College sends a group of students, staff, and faculty to the conference each November.
