Because the public relations staff serves as the official hub for the College's media relations, all contact with the media must be coordinated through the Office of Marketing and Public Relations. The public relations staff is available to assist you with researching and writing a news release or media advisory for your program or event. While it is possible to draft the content of your own news release, it must then be shared with the public relations coordinator for review, possible edit, and distribution to the media. This procedure works well because the office of marketing and public relations has established contacts with journalists in the region, as well as an extensive media list to maximize exposure. Releases distributed by the office of marketing and public relations also go out on the College's news letterhead along with a standard description of the College for consistency purposes. All news releases are formatted in the industry-standard Associated Press (AP) style guidelines. Allowing the office of marketing and public relations to distribute your news release also enables us to track exposure and maintain accurate media archives. The staff will also be able to discuss your options for coordinating photography to accompany your story. |

The Office of Marketing and Public Relations compiles the information for students who made the dean's list, including a student's name, major, hometown and class year, and sends it to an outside organization to generate the news release. (Students who requested academic-related information not be released are not included in the list.) The outside organization uses a student's zip code to determine what local daily and weekly newspapers should receive the press release. On occasion, the newspapers chosen are not the newspapers the student's family receives. In these instances, the student or a family member can request a specific newspaper be sent the press release by contacting the Office of Marketing and Public Relations at extension 6027. |

No, the Bridge magazine and the majority of all other college publications are designed and produced by the Office of Publications. Since our names are similar, and both offices are located on the third floor of Old Main, it is not uncommon for people to confuse our two offices. However, comprised of a talented team of designers, art directors, production assistants, and writers, it is the publications office that has primary responsibility for production of the Bridge magazine, brochures, posters, flyers, and variety of other excellent publications campus wide. |
