Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Basic Information & Policy Q: Who manages Messiah’s web site? A: Messiah’s web site is managed by a full-time College Web Staff, which is housed within the Office of Public Relations. The College Webmaster designs and manages web pages on the site and coordinates a team of department and student webmasters on campus. In regular consultation with the Director of Public Relations and the Vice President for Advancement, he manages the project load, graphic standards, and strategic development of Messiah’s web site. The College Web Staff also works closely with the College’s Department of Information and Technology Services (ITS), who provide valuable technical support and manage the hardware and software infrastructure of the web site. The Web Weavers Forum, a web advisory group comprised of representatives from various campus departments, meets once per semester (or as necessary) to consult with and provide feedback to Messiah’s College Web Staff on key issues related to the web site. Q: Who are the College’s “webmasters”? A: The term webmaster commonly refers to a person who is technically skilled in Internet design, programming, and web site management. Messiah is fortunate to have a talented staff comprised of a full-time College Webmaster and part-time work study students (located in the Office of Public Relations). Although not officially a part of the College’s Web Staff, many offices and departments on campus also assign staff members and work study students to serve as “webmaster” for their individual area’s web site. These individuals work in tandem with the College Web Staff and play a vital role in keeping the content and design of www.messiah.edu current and accurate. Q: Is my web site subject to ITS policies and procedures? A: Yes. All web sites housed on the College’s web servers (including students and employee home pages, as well as department and organizational web pages) are subject to the policies, procedures and standards of the Department of Information and Technology Services (ITS) – as well as all relevant local, state and federal laws. The Office of Public Relations works closely with ITS to ensure and maintain and organized, effective and ethical computing environment for the College’s web site. You may read more about the College’s policies on copyright and objectionable content on the ITS policies page. Q: Who makes final decisions about issues related to Messiah’s web site? A: The policies and procedures that guide decisions related to Messiah’s web site were developed by the Office of Public Relations, in consultation with the Vice President for Advancement and ITS, and were approved by the College’s senior administration and President’s Cabinet (predecessor of the College Council) in March 2000. Generally, the Office of Public Relations (in consultation with the Vice President for Advancement) makes decisions regarding strategic development, communication and design issues for Messiah’s web site. ITS has primary authority for decisions regarding the infrastructure and systems administration of Messiah’s web site. However, through the work of the Web Weavers Forum, these offices receive important feedback and input from campus on key issues related to Messiah’s web site. Q: How can I make suggestions for Messiah’s web site? A: Your input is welcome. You may email any questions, suggestions or feedback to the College Webmaster, use our web form, or you may call the College Webmaster at ext. 7041. |
