Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Maintaining Your Website

Q: Whom do I contact if I want to revise or update my current web page?

A: If your web page was created by the College’s Web Staff, please contact the College Webmaster at ext. 7041 or use our web form to request updates or revisions to either text or photos. If the revisions are not extensive, many times this process may be completed via phone or email. If the revisions are extensive, most likely a client meeting will be scheduled to discuss the changes. If you or someone in your department (such as a staff member or work study student) created your web page, you may make text or photo revisions/updates on your own. Any questions regarding web site revisions may be directed to the College Webmaster at ext. 7041 or by using our web form.

Q: If the College Web Staff designs my web site, can I then have access to it to keep it updated?
A: Yes, if a client is comfortable making their own web updates and revisions, access can be given to him or her using the space access guidelines above. If the client does not know how to use Dreamweaver or HTML, the College Webmaster in many instances can train “non-techies” to use a design template that will allow them to update their own content relatively easily on the web.

Q: May I work on my web page from off campus? How do I access my server account?
A: You may access your space and files on the web server remotely through a method known as File Transfer Protocol (FTP). For detailed instructions and the necessary software, visit the ITS FTP page. Third-party consultants who are being used by campus departments or individuals to help them create their web pages may also be granted FTP access. Request for third-party access must come through an employee or student to their desktop support person, who informs the College Webmaster of the request. Upon approval of the College Webmaster and after coordination with ITS, he will instruct the third-party on the College’s web site standards and FTP protocols.
