Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Website Promotion Q: What criteria are used to determine what links are located on the front page of Messiah’s web site? A: The front page of Messiah College’s web site must make an instant, powerful impact on our visitors. It must also make it as easy as possible for visitors to navigate the College’s site to quickly locate the information they are seeking. To do this, the front page links are carefully selected and organized by the Office of Public Relations to easily direct visitors to the major divisions of the College. Links are also organized by key audiences (such as students, alumni, future students, parents, etc.) to help these important groups find particular areas of interest. Particularly high-traffic sites may also be located either on the front page of the site or close to it, especially if they support the overall objectives of the College’s web site. Regardless of where the link is located on Messiah’s site, the web site’s search engine (which is powered by Google), makes practically any College web page quick and easy to locate. Q: How can I promote my campus event on Messiah’s web site? A: To promote your campus event on the College’s web site, call the College Webmaster at ext. 7041 to discuss the available options. Q: Will Messiah College provide a link from its site to my non-College-related web site? A: In the course of designing their own web sites, offices, departments, and individuals have the discretion of linking to external web sites which they think will benefit their web visitors in accordance with the purpose of the site. However, the College does not generally provide access to external organizations or individuals (such as businesses, consultants, “underground” web sites, etc.) soliciting links to Messiah’s site. Q: May I purchase a separate domain name for my department or organization? A: No. In order to effectively coordinate the navigation of Messiah’s web site and to track its visitor traffic, the College will represent all of its official web sites at www.messiah.edu. Exceptions to this policy must be determined in advance through consultation with the College Webmaster, the Director of Public Relations, the Director of ITS, and approved by the College’s senior administration. |
