Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Help with Technical Issues

Q: What resources does the College Web Staff offer me if I decide to design my own web page?

A: Campus web designers have access to a variety of helpful resources at our resources page:

  • Instructions on how to use design templates
  • A web style manual that provides helpful guidelines and graphic standards on web design
  • An online photo database, with images for download
Note: For more information concerning web design resources, please call the College Webmaster at ext. 7041.

Q: What type of web training is available to me?
A: ITS offers all employees training in Dreamweaver, the primary web-authoring software of the College. Visit the ITS web site to view the current class training schedule and availability. The College Web Staff is also available for some limited one-on-one training in certain web applications as their schedule allows. Dreamweaver, which is accessible using the College’s network application launcher, also offers a tutorial that is helpful in learning the basics. (See our resources page for more information.)

Q: How may I get help with a technical problem on my web site?
A: If your web page was created by the College’s Web Staff, please contact the College Webmaster at ext. 7041 or use our web form to request assistance with a technical problem. The College Web Staff will then work to assess and correct the problem (in conjunction with ITS if necessary) as soon as possible. If you, someone in your department, or a contractor hired by your department created your web page, you should first attempt to correct the technical problem through that contact. If the problem cannot be identified or corrected by those means, please contact the College Web Staff immediately.

Q: May I house my department’s or office’s web pages on a server other than the College’s web server?
A: No. In order to consistently manage, maintain and track the vast content of Messiah College’s web site, all of the College’s web pages must be housed on the College’s web server as designated by ITS. Permission to do otherwise must be obtained in advance by ITS in consultation with the College Webmaster

Q: Can I have responses from my web site go directly to my email?
A: Yes, if you have a campus email address, your web site can be designed to forward responses and feedback directly to your email inbox.

Q: Can my department take credit card orders on its web site?
A: The College does have the ability to facilitate e-commerce through secure online credit card purchasing. An office or department wishing to initiate an e-commerce account should contact the College Webmaster at ext. 7041 to discuss the fees, accounting, and procedures involved.

Q: How can I find out how much traffic my web site is generating?
A: Software is currently being acquired for the College’s web site that will review web site visitor logs and report on various parameters, including the number of users, peak usage times, most visited pages, and other similar information. Please contact the College Webmaster at ext. 7041 for more information on the acquisition of this software.

Note: Due to the large number of visitors that the College web site receives, it will take a number of hours to generate traffic reports. These reports are most often run overnight, so you will need to plan accordingly when making requests.
