"Design Squad" started long before cameras started rolling. In addition to designing challenges ahead of time, the engineering team spent one month building and equipping the set of the show and a week putting the contestants through an engineering bootcamp to equip them with all the skills they'd need to face the challenges ahead. Here Don Pratt,
engineering content director
for the series and professor of engineering at Messiah College, oversees a contestant's work with clockwork mechanisms and bicycle parts for a later challenge.
