Don Pratt , professor of engineering, started the Genesis Solar Racing Team at Messiah in 1993. For the solar car built in 2000, the team spent all of January term, 8 hours a day, building a solar array. In this photograph a student equipped with a clean suit carefully solders the delicate solar cells. For the 2,800 solar cells on the car, the team created 27,000 solder points. When the energy output of their solar array was measured at the race, they showed almost double the power output of any other team thus far.
