Here the student driver from the Messiah team slides into the completed solar car. Only 7.5 inches tall, the body of the car traveled a remarkable 2,750 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles.  Throughout the nine-day race, the rest of the team followed the driver in a renovated ambulance, switching drivers every three hours because of the cramped and hot conditions.
