Cory Furman

Assistant Athletic Director

Cory came to Messiah last December to serve in the position of assistant athletics director for public relations and marketing/sports information director.  A native of Fishers, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis, Cory is a graduate of Ball State University. Before coming to Messiah, he served as sports information director, head golf coach, and assistant men's basketball coach at Goshen College. Cory and his wife, Tara, reside in Mechanicsburg. He is a Seinfeld afficionado and challenges anyone to ask him a trivia question about the show.

Michelle George '88

Instructor of Social Work

Michelle joins the social work faculty full time following 4 ½ years teaching at Lancaster Bible College where she served as the director of the social work program and taught marriage and family courses in the graduate school. She is a graduate of Messiah College and received her MSW from Temple University. She has also been employed by Philhaven Behavioral Healthcare for the past 21 years and still maintains an outpatient clinical practice with a focus on individuals, couples, and families. She has an interest in issues of history, social justice, reconciliation, clinical social work, and resiliency. She resides with her husband, Rod, also a Messiah graduate, and daughter, Rebekah, in Lititz, Pa. Michelle enjoys gardening, hiking, camping, hunting, and music. She is an active member of the Lancaster Evangelical Free Church where she serves in the praise band and on the general board.

Susan S. Hasseler

Dean of the School of Education and Social Sciences

Professor of Education

Susan comes to Messiah College from Calvin College in Michigan where she was the associate dean for teacher education and professor of education. Prior to that she was on the faculty at Michigan State University and taught in elementary and secondary schools in multiple states. Susan earned a Ph. D. in education and social policy from Northwestern University, an M. A. in special education from the University of South Dakota, and a B. S. in special education from Calvin College. Her research interests include anti-racist education, international education (with a particular focus on South Africa), and leadership. Susan loves to travel and enjoys reading, biking, and kayaking in her spare time. She lives on a lovely hilltop outside of Dillsburg with her husband, Ken, and her yellow lab, Dakota. Ken and Sue have two grown children.
