Remembering Jason S. Norris '08
First-year student Jason S. Norris '08 was tragically killed in a February car accident when he lost control of his car on icy roads in an attempt to avoid a vehicle that had crossed into his lane. Jason, a computer science major, lived in Witmer Residence and was actively involved in the Student Activities Board (SAB), the College radio station (WVMM), and the monthly student talent program, Coffeehouse. His hobbies included playing the guitar, a talent he used as worship leader for his church. Norris' friends and roommates paid tribute by sharing anecdotes from their time together. Friend Bobby Fisher '08 said, "I could never find anyone that I would rather be friends with than Jason."
Norris' parents, Steven and Glenda, and sister, Jenna, live in Mechanicsburg and attend First United Methodist Church of Mechanicsburg. Candace Arnold, associate pastor of the church, remembers a poignant moment she shared with Jason and his friends and family. During a church celebration for graduating high school seniors last spring, the students talked about their faith journeys. "Many seniors said, 'I am in this church because Jason invited me.' Some had not been in any church before. I was blown away--Jason had touched so many people."
Through the years, Jason also reached out to others by participating in several mission trips and volunteering at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank with his youth group.
The thoughts and prayers of the campus community go out to Jason's family and friends during this difficult time.
