Soccer coach gains renown
during years at Messiah

As of 2008, Dave Brandt ’85 has the highest-ranked winning percentage (.887) of any coach in NCAA men’s soccer history. During two decades of coaching soccer at Messiah College, with 12 years as the men’s head coach, Brandt has gained national renown through several milestones and achievements:
• a 246–26–12 win-loss record;
•
participation in the NCAA tournament each year he was at the helm;
•
six national titles (in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008) and 52 NCAA post-season wins, both of which are Division III records; and
•
six Commonwealth Coach of the Year awards and four NSCAA National Coach of the Year awards.
After 24 years of coaching Messiah soccer, Dave Brandt has accepted a position to coach the United States Naval Academy’s Division I men’s soccer team in Annapolis, Maryland. Of his years at Messiah, Brandt says, “I think there is a depth and maturity to the way in which faith and learning are linked at Messiah that is an important model and critical to the experience of every student. I have tried and hope always to provide my players with lifelong lessons on purpose, principles, and the importance of relationships.”
