Requirements
- Have and keep a 2.5 cumulative grade point average
- Have completed at least 1 year as a full-time enrolled student at Messiah College by the beginning of RA training
- Preferably having experience working with FY students and desire to invest into an upper class RA staff
- Maintain communication with your RD when you plan to be off-campus overnight (especially on weekends)
- Have strong administrative abilities; strong communicator; be self-motivated/initiator
Daily
- Connecting with and caring for staff members individually and as a group
- Assisting with discipline and mentoring students
- Role model a commitment to Messiah College standards, healthy relationships and respect for others.
- Communicate (check RA box, voice mail and email daily and make timely responses)
- Serve as a representative of the RD during their absence
- Serve as a resource for RAs
- Care for yourself – do what you need to do to maintain your health (spiritual, physical, emotional, etc.)
- Other responsibilities as requested by your Residence Director, Director of Residence Life and/or Director of Housing
Weekly
- Attend, help plan and lead parts of staff meetings
- Attend 1:1s with your RD
- Turn in completed paperwork (as per your RD expectations)
- Conduct five office hours in the building/ResLife office
- Coordinate staff dinners
- Maintain & update building social media sites
- Initiate staff hang outs and individual connections with staff
Monthly
- Create & update the common column for all FY hall newletters
- Complete and turn in staff reports (i.e. - Intentional Connections, LT times, etc)
- Connect with staff through 1:1s
- Create clock/walk schedules
- Maintain building bulletin board
Semesterly
- Welcome new residents!
- Participate in all training activities (August training, J-term Training, all-RA meetings, leadership initativies)
- Take the lead on RCIs/ACIs (help train your staff, organize your building)
- Organize building RCIs
- Work hall opening (First year move in, key tables, greet residents)
- Work hall closings (check outs, storage, etc. at Christmas, Spring Break, May closing)
- Participate in FY programming (CCC training/Deck the Halls/Imago Day/etc.)
- Complete performance review with your RD
- Assist the FY RDs (Kicking back at the Union, Accepted Students Preview Days, Focus Groups, Educational Templates, First Friday)
- Planning, assisting, and hosting building wide activities (Holiday parties, Spirit week, cookouts, dessert nights, etc.)
- Attend & help plan staff retreats
Yearly
- Attend Leadership banuqet
- Attend ResLife (create RA slideshow)
- Complete RD evaluations
- Participate in RA hiring process (i.e. – Carousel night)
- Plan & coordinate RA commissioning
- Organize banner making in August
- Manage hall t-shirts (design, sign-ups, distribute)
