| Hometown: Worthington, a historic suburb of Columbus, Ohio
College and Graduate School: B.A. Biblical Studies, Westmont College, Santa Barbara California; M.Div. Regent College, Vancouver British Columbia
Favorite activity: I am completely happy when hanging out with friends or getting to know new people. Though, singing in a choir, acting, or giving a speech/presentation are close competitors.
Favorite color: Green...hence the colors in my apartment.
Weirdest food ever eaten: Squirrel and rabbit stew. Talk about gamey...I won't be making that anytime soon.
Why did you come to Messiah? I was looking for RD jobs and Messiah had many attractive qualities. First, it was in the eastern United States, which is much closer to my family than the west coast where I had lived for eight years. Messiah offers a holistic educational environment for its students, emphasizing not only academic excellence, but also the importance of developing a student's character, Christian faith, and encourages involvement in service in the community and abroad. What really snagged me about Messiah is the people that I met when I interviewed here. After interacting with numerous staff and students, I got excited about becoming part of the team at Messiah.
If you could change places with one person for a day, who would you change places with and why? I would trade places with a sculptor, potter or a painter, provided that I got their skill for the day. I love art, especially shapes, colors and textures that come to life through the work of human hands. Sadly, the hands that God gave me were not made for the challenge and finesse that these art forms demand.
What is one thing that makes you different from the other Messiah RDs? I'm crazy about babies. I have pictures of all of the babies and children in my life all over my apartment. Some of them are related to me (my nephews and nieces) but most of them belong to friends. I am the proud "Auntie CoCo" to Phillip, Taylor, Mason, Clayton, Kennedy, and Kingsley Gustafson, Chase and Zachary Spengler, Emily and Tyler Priebe, Everett Hayashi and, I'm sure, many more to come.
What do you like about being an RD? Having so many people to bake for. Sharing life with my staff members in Solly and Kelly. Laughing while working hard with the other RDs. Challenging and helping students to appreciate and respect community life. Learning about life right along with my residents.
Favorite joke: I don't tell jokes per se. I rely on natural wit in everyday circumstances to get my laughs.
Favorite Bible verse: I don't like to grasp scripture verse by verse, but by overarching ideas, stories and themes. But if I had to choose one verse that fills me with purpose it would be 1 Peter 2:10 "Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."
Favorite TV show: Deadliest Catch. It's about fishing for crab in the Baring Sea off the coast of Alaska. It's pretty intense, definitely not for the faint of heart. (The Discovery Channel, Tuesdays at 9 pm) Favortie Classic TV show: The Cosby Show - it's hilarious and clean and the sweaters that Bill wears are worth many laughs.
Favorite breakfast cereal? French Vanilla and Almond Granola, in the bulk aisle at Giant.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring one physical possession with you, what would you bring? A solar powered satellite radio. Music is like food to me...necessary and nourishing. |
