Tera grew up in a small town in northwest Ohio, began her college education at Bluffton University, then transferred to Calvin College where she graduated in 2005. While in college, she studied Sociology and Spanish. Although she was a Resident Assistant during her senior year, Tera never imagined herself working professionally in Residence Life. However, God had different plans. Through watching her husband, Jon, work with college students at Grove City College as well as mentoring young women there, a new interest began to grow. Shortly after in 2008, Jon accepted a Resident Director position at Calvin and the following year he and Tera job-shared the RD position while Tera began working on her master's degree in Higher Education at Geneva College. Tera then took over full-time in 2010 and has enjoyed working as a Resident Director ever since, completing her master's in 2012.
While in college, Tera spent a semester studying abroad in Honduras where she was confronted with issues of poverty and inequality. Since then, she has sought to live a life of God's justice. Tera is passionate about faith, social justice, and creation care and seeks to bring these issues into her work with college students.
In her free time, Tera enjoys cycling, walking, camping, reading, learning, and trying out new local restaurants. Someday, Tera hopes to learn how to play the guitar and grow her own garden. Jon and their daughter Elana are the apple of her eye!
