Energy in 2004

This year, the energy team (formerly the solar team) has undergone many exciting changes and reformations. This group now has four new branches, including the knowledge database team, the Zimbabwe team, the micro-enterprise team, and the Burkina Faso team. Though each team is slightly different, they all have the common goal of providing low-cost, low-maintenance technology for impoverished people for many years, while spreading the love of God through their acts of service. Since the energy team was so successful in Burkina Faso in the past, they are now starting to branch into Zimbabwe, supporting the Theological College of Zimbabwe (TCZ) by trying to lower the cost of energy. The micro-enterprise team is trying to start a micro-enterprise business in lesser income countries for some of their designs and energy products, such as the solar-charged, battery-powered tricycle light. The Burkina Faso team is most excited about returning to Burkina Faso in January, at which point they intend to visit different mission sites that they haven’t yet worked in. They ask for prayer for trip preparations and organizing the details of the project.

Current & Future Projects:

Fall 2004: DE teams work on data organization, load analysis spreadsheets, and communication with TCZ about their vision for the future.

Spring 2005: DE is planning a trip to TCZ in the coming summer for installation of the photovoltaic (PV) system, research on the design and installation possiblities for a solar hot water heater, and study of material availability and cost. This will be the beginning of TCZ's new power system and lay the groundwork for future projects.
