~ Welcome! ~
Koinonia (from koinos: a sharer, associate, companion, partaker, partner)
-partnership, participation, communion, friendship, fellowship
Through complementary men’s and women’s small groups and ministry efforts as well as a monthly large group gathering, Koinonia is designed to be a place where students can easily find a place to plug in, participate in a ministry that is relevant to their concerns, and be challenged along with their peers to grow deeper in their faith. Koinonia will be campus-wide; anyone from any part of campus can come by themselves or with some friends and join a small group of their choice.
These are some of the benefits of Koinonia:
- Training, Encouragement, and Accountability for Leaders of Small Groups
Leaders will meet once a month in small resourcing groups facilitated by a staff person and a core leadership team member for training, encouragement, and accountability. These resource people will be available to help leaders with brainstorming, problem-solving, providing resources, and prayer support. Several training workshops for leaders will be offered at the beginning of each semester.
- Mentor Connections
Groups will be connected with an adult mentor (an older Christian from the local or College community) who will be available for prayer support, encouragement, and hospitality. Mentors will personally connect with each small group member at least once a month to invest in the lives of each member. They will also be invited to attend the small group one time each month, share hospitality with the group (possibly inviting members to their home and/or joining them for meals in Lottie, etc.), and attend the monthly large group gatherings.
- Large Group Fellowship Gatherings
Each month, all the Koinonia groups will meet together for a time of food, fellowship, sharing, and worship in a relaxed atmosphere. This provides a way for members to be a part of a bigger program and to connect with others involved in small groups.
- Resources and Materials
Leaders of the Koinonia small groups will have access to materials in the College Ministries Library (books, Bible study guides, videos, etc.) to help them plan effective and creative group meetings. The Resource Coordinator will be available to help groups find resources that are appropriate to their needs.
"For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline."
