Welcome to the Lambda Psi Chapter!

A Brief History of the Organization

The Lamba Psi Chapter at Messiah College is one of 380 chapters of the Phi Alpha Honor Society in existence.

The concept of a national social work honor society came from a group of undergraduate social work students

at Michigan State University in 1960. The constitution and formal organization were completed in 1962, and six chapters

qualified to become "charter chapters." These were: Florida State University, Michigan State University, Ohio North University,

Central State College, University of Dayton and the University of Tennessee. Phi Alpha here at Messiah College became

a charter chapter in 2004 due to the hard work of the faculty, executive committee and members. Just recently in 2006, Phi

Alpha was recognized by the Student Government Association on campus as a student organization.
