The Beta Lambda Chapter

National Membership Qualifications

Sigma Zeta is a national science and mathematics honors society. The Beta Lambda Chapter of Messiah College is actively involved with the national chapter by annually attending the national conference-- giving Sigma Zeta members the opportunity to present research papers to an audience and collaborate with other chapters as to their past activities and future plans. Beta Lambda hosts a research colloquium early in the spring semester. Sigma Zeta teams up with the Biology Club in various off campus trips that sometimes include nature hikes, field trips to nature preserves, tours of technological centers, etc. Past activities include a tour of a biogas farm, a trip to a wildflower preserve, a model rain forest, and the botanical gardens in Washington DC. In order to be accepted into the Sigma Zeta honors society you must be at least a sophomore, majoring in any of the natural or mathematical sciences. You must have an overall GPA of at least 2.75 and at least a 3.0 major GPA. A registration fee of $15 is required. Applications may be obtained from the Sigma Zeta home page or from Dr. Joe Sheldon, Sigma Zeta faculty advisor.
