New to Messiah Swing?

What to Expect

As with all couples dances, swing is a lead-follow dance. The lead (usually the guy) will use the all important connection to communicate to the follow (usually the girl), without words, what is going to happen next. The first style of swing you will learn is called East Coast. East Coast swing is 6 count style of swing known by virtually everyone who swing dances, so you can expect it to be fun and easy to learn.

What to Wear

Some people like dancing in chucks or vans, because they don't have too much traction, so you can move around easily. Swing dancing is exercise, so be aware that it can get hot. Also when we do ariels a skirt is probably not a good idea.

Partner Rotation

Except for when we teach ariels, we frequently rotate partners during the lesson. This is the best way to learn to dance, and allows everyone a chance to learn the move since we usually don't have exactly the same number of leads and follows.
