Alumni Rise to the CHALLENGE and Surpass $100,000 Goal!

On June 30, 2010, as the last gifts of the fiscal year were received and processed, an exciting milestone was reached. The $100,000 Alumni Centennial Challenge from the Board of Trustees was completed as last-minute gifts took the total new and increased gifts from alumni beyond the $100,000 mark. In fact, alumni have given $104,500 in new and increased gifts since the Challenge was announced in November!
Here's how the Challenge worked:

-
New gifts to the annual fund were matched dollar for dollar, up to $1,000.
-
The increased portion of any previous or current year gift to the annual fund were matched, up to $1,000.
-
Married alumni made twice the impact. New or increased gifts from married alumni couples were matched up to $2,000 ($1,000 per alum).
If you missed your chance to participate in the Alumni Centennial Challenge, don't hesitate. Make your gift now to be counted as an alumni donor in the new 2010-11 academic year by visiting www.messiah.edu/gifts.
Messiah College mourns the passing of two faithful servants
On June 29, 2010, Lowell D. Hoover, Trustee Emeritus of Messiah College, passed away in Kansas. Lowell attended Upland College and served Upland as a trustee before beginning his tenure on Messiah’s board in 1967. Lowell was a wonderful blessing to Messiah College in so many ways, including his commitment to supporting our mission through his service, his prayers, and his giving.
Even at age 92, Lowell was able to attend the Centennial Year Messiah College Commencement last May. How wonderful it was to have this Godly man witness the graduation of Messiah’s Centennial Class. We are deeply grateful for his life.

John Z. Martin, esteemed Messiah College alumnus and past president of Upland College, passed away on July 2, 2010, at Messiah Village. John was a gifted educator, administrator, and fundraiser. He had a profound impact on Christian higher education and independent colleges and universities, particularly in the state of Indiana where he served for 14 years as the Executive Director of the Associated Colleges of Indiana.
John was the recipient of the Messiah Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1982. He and his wife Anna were remarkable mentors to countless Messiah students over the years. We are thankful that the Lord’s plan for John included spending a portion of his life’s journey at Messiah College.
