Messiah completes largest campaign in its history

Messiah College announced this semester that it recently raised $50.5 million in its
To Serve & To Lead campaign, the largest campaign in the College’s history. Already visible results from the campaign include new facilities such as Boyer Hall and Larsen Student Union and the renovations of athletic facilities now underway at Anderson and Shoemaker Fields. In addition, the campaign successfully raised funds for increased scholarship aid and the impending expansion of Climenhaga Fine Arts Center.

“The impact of this campaign has been transformational in the lives of Messiah College students,” said President Kim S. Phipps, “and has significantly enhanced Messiah’s ability to carry out its educational mission and equip students for lives of service, leadership, and reconciliation.”

Highlights of the To Serve & To Lead campaign include:

• Construction of Boyer Hall, the largest academic building on campus, which houses the School of Education and Social Sciences, the School of the Humanities, and The Boyer Center;

• Construction of the Larsen Student Union, a student-centered space featuring dining and lounge areas in addition to offices and work spaces for student organizations;

• Preliminary fundraising for the expansion of Climenhaga Fine Arts Center, home to the growing School of the Arts;• Funds for the Student Impact Fund, an annual pool of resources for student scholarships, athletic programs, technology, and library needs;

• Development of opportunities to sustain the “Christian Vocation: Service, Leadership, and Reconciliation” project initially funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc., and to implement the Leroy and Eunice Steinbrecher Student Research Scholarships in the Sciences;

• Launching of an endowed fund—the Brethren in Christ Heritage Fund—for strengthening awareness, knowledge, and understanding related to Messiah College’s founding denomination, the Brethren in Christ Church; and

• Renovation of athletic fields, primarily the soccer and field hockey/lacrosse fields, to include drainage and irrigation systems, installation of lighting, increased bleacher seating, and new topsoil and sod.
