Initiative seeks to give the gift of a
Messiah educationLast semester, President Kim S. Phipps unveiled a five year, $20 million fundraising initiative to further develop strong support for student financial aid. Aptly named, “Opening Doors to Educational Opportunities,” the initiative, by more than doubling the amount of endowed scholarship funds and providing an additional $1.5 million in annual scholarship aid, will help make a Messiah College education attainable to a broader group of students and their families. Messiah College is committed to recruiting and retaining qualified students who desire a first-class Christian education, regardless of their financial aid need. Since 96 percent of Messiah students receive some type of financial aid, increasing available funds will allow the College to further enhance the more than $20 million that it already offers in financial aid annually. Increasing financial aid also helps students reduce their debt load so that finances are less of a hindrance to pursuing mission work or service-related occupations upon graduation. “We’re excited about this initiative,” says Ken Hall, director of development. “The day after we announced the Opening Doors initiative, a donor generously committed $500,000 which reinforced the College’s decision to focus energy on increasing the amount of student financial aid.” Questions about the new Opening Doors initiative can be directed to Bob Brown, director of planned giving and leadership gifts, at (800) 215-5344 or bbrown@messiah.edu. |
