December 2006 Parents Progress Archives Planning to Visit?
|
Dear Parents: As the first snowflakes of the season fall, I imagine you are busy preparing for the upcoming holidays and marveling at how another year has gone by so quickly! As I consider the past calendar year, I am especially grateful for the students, parents, alumni, colleagues, and friends who have contributed to a fulfilling and meaningful time for Messiah College. I hope you are finding plenty of opportunities to get further acquainted with Messiah College. This issue of Parents Progress introduces you to the Engle Center for Counseling and Health Services, a resource for students in need of physical or emotional support. As a parent, I understand the unrest you experience when your child is ill or depressed and you are not able to be physically present to provide support. Be assured that the gifted and committed professionals at the Engle Center do a truly outstanding job of providing health and counseling care for Messiah students. Caring about students’ well-being comes naturally to many members of our campus community. Dr. Paul Nisly, professor of English, is one such example. As Dr. Nisly retires from full-time teaching this month, the College bids farewell to a faithful scholar, mentor, and friend. In his more than 30 years of teaching at Messiah, Dr. Nisly has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and colleagues. Known for his academic vigor, genuine compassion, and sincere desire to help students succeed, Dr. Nisly epitomizes the type of care that students experience in their classes at Messiah. A current student has written an article about Dr. Nisly that I encourage you read on page 5. In the midst of this busy season before us, I hope you and your family are able to enjoy some meaningful moments of celebration. Thank you for the precious gift of sharing your children with Messiah. May peace enfold your family as you celebrate the miracle of Christmas. Warm regards, Kim S. Phipps President |
