School of the Arts
MCPC is a great opportunity for students interested in the arts. The city of Philadelphia is full of museums, theatres, music venues of every genre, galleries, public art and artists/musicians who live in the city to create neighborhood vibes. Temple University offers courses specific to students' talents and provides several theater and music venues within walking distance of MCPC.
Several articles are written about Philadelphia's continuously emerging art scene. Do some searching for inspiration. Here are some sites to check out:
Department of Visual Arts
The aesthetics of Philadelphia will inspire you to think differently. Get involved with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, explore the museums or discover your own visual interpretation of the city. Students are welcome to take classes through Temple University's art department. Check out more about Temple's art scene.
Department of Music
MCPC students can participate in Temple University's choirs and ensembles in addition to taking courses in the Music Department. Several of the courses and music groups require an audition on Temple's campus. Students may choose to arrange the audition and travel to Philadelphia before the semester begins, or audition at the beginning of the semester of study. Temple's music department is active and provides several opportunities to get involved.
Department of Theatre
Theatre majors often choose MCPC as their semester of Enrichment study. Because most theatre opportunities exist in an urban context, MCPC provides a safe and exciting way to experience the city and get practical experience. Students participate in Temple's theatre productions in a variety of ways including costuming, acting, and lighting. Temple's expanded course offerings provide students knowledge specific to their interests. Check Messiah's course catalog and consult with your advisor to determine the best course options available to you.
