Temple Associates
Temple Associates are full-time, matriculated students of Temple University who desire to reside at Messiah College Philadelphia Campus (MCPC) during their course of study. Since MCPC is a Christian undergraduate learning community within an urban context, students commit themselves to a shared life of inquiry, instruction, community, and discipline. Temple Associates agree to live by the same standards, norms and ideals expected of all students of Messiah College while in residence at MCPC. While they need not be confessing Christians, Temple Associates must be willing to immerse themselves within this Christian community, interact with their course of study from a Christian perspective, and participate in shared learning as outlined below.
The Contours of Community at MCPC:
1. All undergraduate students in residence at MCPC commit themselves to upholding the Messiah College Community Covenant. This entails refraining from alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and unauthorized use of controlled substances. Additionally, this requires a general mode of conduct in keeping with the tenets of Christian faith.
2. Interactions between men and women in residence are also to be conducted within the contours of Christian faith. This means pre-marital and extra-marital sexual intercourse, as well as homosexual behavior are prohibited. In keeping with this, visitation between men and women in private residence hall rooms is restricted to 12:00pm - 12:00am, every day of the week (Sunday-Saturday). Public areas offer unrestricted interaction 24 hours a day.
3. As a residential learning community, we share and support one another in individual and collective learning. Such shared learning takes many forms including:
- Classes offered at MCPC
- Evening meals served in the 2018 Café
- Weekly Community Gatherings - Mondays 6:45pm - 7:45pm
- Immersion Weekends - themed weekends of programming which occur three times per semester
Logistics of Residence at MCPC:
1. Room is billed at $2,090.00 (US) per semester. This includes room fees, programming costs, and access to food in MCPC's 24-hour café.
2. Registration for a Sodexho meal-plan (10-meal plan minimum) is required as per MCPC protocols - Note: Dinners are served in MCPC's 2018 Café Monday through Thursday.
3. Associates must be upperclassmen - no first-year students.
4. Associates will be assigned rooms with other Messiah Students, and will have at least one other roommate.
5. Residence is granted for one academic year at a time (fall-spring); residence in subsequent semesters is subject to availability.
6. Compliance with the Community Covenant and MCPC Rules and Regulations is required.
