Exhibition Title: Unembedded: Four Independent Photojournalists on the War in Iraq
Kael Alford, Thorne Anderson, Rita Leistner, Ghaith Abdul-Ahad
Aughinbaugh Gallery: September 14 - October 21
The photographers were in Iraq at the start of the war working outside the confines of the U.S. military program. They are interested in documenting issues often underrepresented in the mainstream media: the insurgency as seen from the inside, civilians affected by the violence, the growing conservatism and fundamentalism and their effects on women, and the devastating effect of civilian casualties. The goal of the exhibit is to help educate public awareness about the role of US policy in Iraq through eyewitness accounts of events on the ground.
This exhibition is largely supported by the Department of Visual Arts and School of the Arts with additional material support from the Departments of Biblical and Religious Studies, Communication, Gender Studies, Politics, Student Affairs, and Theater, as well as College Ministries, The Sider Institute and The Boyer Center.
