Teacher Certification in Other States

When you complete a teacher certification program at Messiah College, we are able to endorse your application for a Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate. Even if you think you will never teach in Pennsylvania, you should still apply for your Pennsylvania certificate because Pennsylvania has an interstate certification agreement with at least 45 other states. This means that if you already hold a Pennsylvania certificate, obtaining another state’s comparable certificate is relatively easy. The Pennsylvania Department of Education website has detailed information about the Interstate Certification Agreement and the list of states that are included in the agreement.

If you wish to pursue certification in a state other than Pennsylvania, it is your responsibility to apprise yourself of that state’s certification requirements and application procedures. The University of Kentucky maintains a website that may be useful to you: Certification Requirements for 50 States.
