Profile

Dr. Phillippy came to Messiah College in 1993 after two one-year appointments at Muhlenberg College and Shippensburg University. He was trained as an applied mathematician, and some of his early work includes the construction of a mathematical model that measures the stresses that act on the feet of a runner. Currently, his professional interests include integration of faith and mathematics and developing mathematical maturity at the undergraduate level. He enjoys teaching calculus, differential equations, mathematical modeling, and analysis. He is a runner and enjoys participating in a variety of other sports. He is married (to Deb) and has four children (Michael, Lauren, Matthew, and Mark) ranging in age from 25 to 32. Dr. Phillippy attends Hope Grace Brethren Church where he leads the youth program.
