Profile

A 2006 graduate of Messiah College, King returned to Grantham, Pa., in 2011 as Assistant Athletics Director for Public Relations and Marketing. In the Summer of 2014 he transitioned into an Associate Athletics Director role, a move that coincided with the strategic realignment of the Falcons’ public relations, marketing, sports information, and compliance activities into the single office of Athletic Communications.

His most recent administrative shift to Senior Associate Director of Athletics was part of a small number of other moves for the Falcons' leadership, including Jack Cole's increasing role in athletics fundraising. The practical impact for King includes increased leadership of many day-to-day tasks within Athletics and increased supervision of a select number of the Falcons' Division III programs. As mentioned, he will also continue leadership of Athletic Communications.

In his time with Messiah he has overseen many developments for the Falcons' marketing and branding, including the reinstallment and operation of the GoMessiah.com and GoMessiah.tv websites. Additionally, King works closely with the Falcon Athletic Network (FAN), Messiah Athletics' official community and donor support organization. Over King’s years with the Falcons, the FAN has continued to operate an annual golf outing while also supporting AROMA Sports Ministry trips, the hiring of graduate assistant coaches, the expansion of the Hall of Honor and Hall of Champions displays, and increased game day promotions.

“I continue to be excited to work with Messiah College Athletics, and to be a part of the tremendous athletic legacy that has formed over the years,” King said. “The support and promotion of our student-athletes, coaches, and athletics mission at Messiah is something for which I am very passionate.

“I look forward to doing my best to contribute to our continued pursuit of achieving athletic excellence and developing Christian character.”

During King’s time as a student at Messiah he was a member of the men's basketball program under head coach Rick Van Pelt, and was a senior captain on the 2006 MAC Commonwealth Championship team. It was the first MAC Commonwealth crown in program history, and resulted in the program's first trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament since Messiah men's basketball joined the NCAA in 1984.

After graduating from Messiah in 2006, King served as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for the Falcons’ program in 2006-07. He helped guide the team to a conference-record 13-1 regular season finish and first-place seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. That team, like the year before, qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

In 2007 King left Messiah to serve as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for Averett University in Danville, Va. He helped guide the team to a USA South Conference Championship and berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament, making it three consecutive years that King went to the Tournament as either a player or assistant coach. King left Averett after one year and traveled to Lexington Christian Academy (Lexington, Mass.) to serve as Athletic Director and head boy’s basketball coach.

During King's time at Lexington Christian he led an athletic department of more than 30 varsity, junior varsity, and middle school athletics teams. He also supervised a staff of over 40 full-time and part-time coaches.

As mentioned, King worked at LCA for three years before returning to Messiah College in 2011.

King and his wife Abby '09 have two daughters, Claire and Evey, and reside in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
