Interest and areas of expertise
Principle interests are in social justice issues and clinical theories. Dr. Lane is passionate about the mental health and wellbeing of older adults in naturally occurring retirement communities (NORC) with an emphasis on older adults aging in place in prison. Additionally, Dr. Lane continues to serve refugees in the nearby communities by maintaining active involvement on the Board of Directors at The Refugee Clinic, an affiliate of COMPASS Immigration Legal Services; as well as assists s with community outreach at Pennsylvania Center for Refugees & Immigration (PACRI).
Dr. Lane firmly believes as Christian Social workers we are called to be salt and light while serving ALL of God’s people.

Profile
Dr. Lane is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of clinical as well as administrative experiences. She is licensed in both the states of New York and Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the Messiah Family Dr. Lane has taught on both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels; teaching at The City University of New York, Fordham University & Touro College (all in New York) as well as Shippensburg University.
Dr. Charlene Lane is passionate about social justice issues and currently teaches across disciplines, teaching courses in both the Departments of Social Work and Criminal justice. Her passion for being the voice of the underserved has resulted in community partnership with humanitarian based, refugee agencies in Central Pennsylvania, as well as collaboration with FEMA research. In addition to the above mentioned, Dr. Lane has provided continuing educating training for several State Agencies addressing issues surrounding, Caring for the Caregiver, Compassion Fatigue, Mental Health Needs and Crisis Intervention Sensitivity trainings, just to mention a few.
Dr. Charlene Lane has presented at Social Work, Gerontological, Mental-Health and Criminal Justice conferences both nationally and internationally. She has addressed issues surrounding, Aging well in Society, Women aging in Place in Prison, The intersectionality between Criminal Justice and Social-Work as well as Health disparities in underrepresented communities, just to mention a few.
