Profile

Mr. Rohrer taught instrumental music in the East Pennsboro Area School District for six years and retired in June 2012 after thirty years with the Carlisle Area School District where he directed the concert band, symphonic band, marching band, jazz combo, jazz band, taught music theory, and served as the Music Department Chairman supervising a fifteen member music staff in grades K-12.  He has been an adjunct music faculty member at Gettysburg College, and Interim Band Director at Susquehanna University during the fall semesters of 2014 and 2022.  In addition, Mr. Rohrer is the Music Director of the Carlisle Town Band, has performed with the Greater Harrisburg Concert Band, and served as the Guest Conductor for the Spires Brass Band (Frederick, MD) March through September, 2023.

With an extensive background in the drum and bugle corps activity, Mr. Rohrer has taught the Westshoremen Senior Drum and Bugle corps, Westshoremen Alumni Corps, the U.S. Naval Academy Drum and Bugle corps, the Bluecoats Junior Drum and Bugle Corps, and most recently was on the 2022 brass staff of the 440 member 50th Anniversary Bluecoats Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps which was honored to perform in exhibition at the 2022 DCI Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has served as band director for Pennsylvania American Legion’s Keystone Boys State, the Pennsylvania State Lions Marching Band, and has guest conducted the West Shore School District High School Honors Band, the 2001and 2013 Grand Sousa Concert in Carlisle, and Susquehanna University’s 2013 High School Honors Concert Band.

Mr. Rohrer is a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Educators, National Band Directors Association, Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz, International Trumpet Guild, and Phi Beta Mu professional music fraternity.  He is past president of the Cumberland County Music Educators Association and PMEA District 7, has served on the Board of Directors of the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz, and is currently the PMEA District 7 Retiree Representative.    Mr. Rohrer is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, has received the PMEA Citation of Excellence, PMEA District 7’s Rodney S. Miller Distinguished Service Award, American Legion Post 101 Citation for Meritorious Service, the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Service Award, and was honored to be inducted into the PMEA Hall of Fame in 2020.
