Professor Johnston holds a B.A. in accounting from Lycoming College, and an M.B.A. from Lebanon Valley College. She is a Pennsylvania Certified Public Accountant and currently manages her own CPA firm. Before entering higher education, Professor Johnston worked in public accounting for KPMG as a tax accountant. She left public accounting to work for The Hershey Company, where she worked as a Senior Corporate Accountant and the Sales and Marketing Accounting Manager. She manages her own CPA practice, which focuses on corporate, partnership, trust and individual tax preparation and planning. She also taught accounting and math classes at Harrisburg Area Community College. Professor Johnston teaches various tax and accounting courses, including partnering with the United Way of the Capital Region to manage the Messiah College VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site for lower income taxpayers. Professional Johnston’s professional affiliations include the National Association of Tax Professionals, Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Christian Business Faculty Association (CBFA).
