Jessica Becker Lawson ’19 Assistant Housing Coordinator & Resident Director for Erskine College

On a daily basis I am working with college students. I oversee 4 different residence hall areas ranging from apartments to honors housing for both male and female students. I oversee 7 resident assistants and meet with them on a weekly basis. I walk alongside of students through both the good and bad times of college.

My senior placement at Families United Network was one of the most impactful experiences while at Messiah. I learned so much and everyday was different. It really pushed me to do better and learn all about foster care and adoption. I loved it so much from the time I started until the day it ended

Messiah’s social work department helped me develop the people and problem solving skills that I use everyday. It is not easy to walk into difficult situations, but they helped me develop the confidence and the skills to do so. Every single day I work with people whether good or bad and the social work department taught me how to handle that well.

Would you recommend Messiah's BSW program to future social workers? Why?

Yes! It is challenging and you know that you are getting a good education. The program forces you to step outside of your comfort zone and to grow.
