Students are introduced to management of wounds, ulcers and burns. Dysfunction related to the lymphatic, endocrine and metabolic, genital and reproductive, gastrointestinal, renal and urologic, hematologic, hepatic and biliary and immune systems. In this course, students have the opportunity to review and critically analyze appropriate research designs through an in-depth literature review. Student research groups initiate their projects by developing a research question and following up with the scientific process. This is the second of three continuum of care courses. This course focuses on rehab and home health physical therapy settings. This course continues to use the 4 planned case studies in the areas of stroke, below knee amputation, spina bifida and total knee replacement to compare and contrast possible client/patient progression and recovery. Students learn about the transition between settings, associated client/patient changes, setting-specific assessment and treatment techniques, interprofessional collaboration, discharge strategies and related documentation. This is the third of three continuum of care courses. This course focuses on the outpatient physical therapy setting. This course continues to use the 4 planned case studies in the areas of stroke, below knee amputation, spina bifida and total knee replacement to compare and contrast possible client/patient progression and recovery. Students learn about setting-specific assessment and treatment, including return to work models of care. Students work to become proficient in the fast-paced environment that requires treatment of multiple clients simultaneously in a timely manner throughout the workday. This course provides preparation for the comprehensive written and lab practical assessments.  Students demonstrate competency of the content learned and practiced in Year 1 and part of Year 2. (4 semesters, 1 Winter Intensive). The culminating experience provides a profile of student competence in cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain as it relates to the Program’s curriculum and to the physical therapy profession.

This course provides the student with opportunities to examine the role of culture in health and wellness as it relates to self, clients/patients, physical therapy and local and global health care arenas. Students use technology, students to interact with diverse individuals and to practice culturally sensitive practices and competencies. This course promotes the progression of the Thesis Research Project as students refine and implement the methodology by collecting and organizing the data for analysis. Ongoing faculty advisor mentoring occurs throughout the semester to provide enriching discussion, feedback and direction.

This 8-week full time clinical experience reinforces knowledge and translates didactic learning into clinical practice. Emphasis is on professional practice and patient management using the performance dimensions of supervision/guidance, quality, complexity, consistency and efficiency. By the end of this clinical experience, the student will be at Advanced Beginner Performance Level or higher as defined by the Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI).

This course provides an evidence based manual therapy approach toward evaluation and management of musculoskeletal conditions. Emphasis will be on enhancing the student's clinical reasoning and manual therapy skills. In this course, students learn about the eclectic role of the physical therapist in the areas of health promotion, wellness and fitness. Students develop educational materials for the community and perform a professional educational presentation.

This course addresses physical therapy in various specialty areas. Students explore physical therapy practice in sports, women’s health, lymphedema, oncology, hand therapy, obesity management, complimentary therapies and aquatics. As part of the learning process, students interview select specialty therapists to gain more in-depth knowledge.

This course covers the managerial and supervisory aspects of and the business practices in physical therapy. This consists of the following related topics: provision of health services, values and ethical principles, external oversights, and business acumen. Students apply the business principles and practices to develop a business plan to start a niche physical therapy practice.
