Year three

In this course, students continue progression of the Thesis Research Project by completing the summary and conclusion. Students choose a peer-reviewed journal to which they would like to submit an abstract and article for publication. Once the Research Mentor approves all written parts, students write and submit a first draft for the abstract and article for mentor review.

PHTH 820 | 1 credit

This 10-week full time clinical experience reinforces knowledge and translates didactic learning into clinical practice. Emphasis is on professional practice and patient management using the performance dimensions of supervision/guidance, quality, complexity, consistency and efficiency. By the end of this clinical experience, the student will be at Intermediate Performance Level or higher as defined by the Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI).

PHTH 832 | 4 credits

This 6-week full time clinical experience reinforces knowledge and translates didactic learning into clinical practice. Emphasis is on professional practice and patient management using the performance dimensions of supervision/guidance, quality, complexity, consistency and efficiency. By the end of this clinical experience, the student will be at Advanced Intermediate Performance Level or higher as defined by the Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI).

PHTH 852 | 2 credits

This 10-week full time clinical experience will reinforce knowledge and translate didactic learning into clinical practice. Emphasis will be on professional practice and patient management using the performance dimensions of supervision/guidance, quality, complexity, consistency and efficiency. By the end of this clinical experience, the student will be at Entry Level Performance or higher as defined by the Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI).

PHTH 872 | 4 credits

Students complete the final stages of their Thesis Research Project. They disseminate the research findings through a poster presentation and submit a final draft of a written research article submission (to a peer-reviewed publication). Students present posters at the Annual Messiah Graduate Programs Research Symposium. Several projects receive distinction and invitations to become platform presentations.

PHTH 880 | 1 credit

Students have the opportunity to present a highlight of their clinical experience and selected projects. Students develop a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis of clinical education and provide recommendations/strategies for quality improvement. Clinical instructors provide a panel discussion on best practices in clinical education, including professional development of serving as a CI/CCCE.

PHTH 881 | 1 credit

This course provides strategies for professional development beyond graduation for the entry-level physical therapist. Students will receive training to prepare for the successful completion of the National Physical Therapy Examination. Students develop a resume and learn to use social media platforms for their job search. Students are educated in the importance of graduate outcomes and the need for their participation in the process. Students discuss their impact in teaching, service, and the global society.
