Joe Meiser is a sculptor and digital artist who uses his work to address questions about ethics, mortality, and our paradoxical human condition. His projects synthesize ideas from philosophy, science, and religion, while including humor to facilitate insight. Although Meiser’s formal education was in sculpture, he now primarily uses CAD software to produce his artwork in order to create more flexibly beyond the limitations of the physical world, and explore the conceptual and practical potential of the virtual form’s uncanny pseudo-presence.
Meiser earned his BFA at Northern Kentucky University, and his MFA at Ohio University. He has exhibited his artwork in venues across the United States and beyond, such as: The South Bend Museum of Art in South Bend, Indiana; Museo de las Artes in Guadalajara, Mexico; Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas; K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, Texas; and the Torrance Art Museum in Los Angeles, California. Meiser has participated in residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Vermont Studio Center, and regularly gives presentations about his artwork at universities and conferences. Meiser lives in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania where he teaches courses on sculpture, digital sculpture, and drawing at Bucknell University.
