Retirement Blessings to Professor Kathleen Quimby

For thirty years, Kate Quimby, Senior Lecturer in Communication, has served Messiah College and our students faithfully through her teaching roles in the Learning Center, the Department of English, the Department of Communication, the Hoverter Course for adult learners in Harrisburg, and cross-cultural trips to South Africa and Scotland. In addition, Kate’s directorships in the Supplemental Instruction program and the Ethnic and Area Studies program have demonstrated her commitment to celebrating and embracing diversity.

Self-described as having “chalk dust in her veins,” Kate has poured herself into a lifetime of teaching. Known for her deep investment in students and her personal engagement in the classroom, she has fostered learning in a variety of unique ways. A model of authentic and open communication, Kate has invited deep and thoughtful class discussions through (in her words) “border collie” herding of students’ wide and varied perspectives. Never satisfied with the status quo, she has always challenged students to step outside their comfort zones and consider new ideas. We congratulate Kate on three decades of encouraging student growth and wish her many blessings as she continues to live out her mantra: “trust the process.”
