The Swinging Bridge Wins Award of Merit

Epa conference 1

The Swinging Bridge Magazine was recognized with an Award of Merit in this year’s Awards of Excellence contest by the Evangelical Press Association. Every year, the EPA selects quality publications to honor at their annual convention, based on quality, content and design. SBM competed in the campus media category.

In order to compete, participants must submit an article, full publication or design. “When a publication or individual enters a piece into the contest, they’re giving towards the scholarship, which is then available for college students,” said Dakota Vaughn, a first-year journalism major who attended the 2017 convention in Chicago.

The EPA convention serves to announce the year’s winners as well as provide an opportunity to grow in publication skills and network with other professionals. “People from Christian publications across the country attended,” said Maddie Conley, another first year journalism student who attended the convention. “Professionals gave small breakout lectures on different topics around journalism, and there were also large group sessions that included music from Christian artist and speakers.”

The national organization strives to provide tools to further the Christian journalism industry and represents print and online magazines, denominational publishers and nonprofit organizations such as mission agencies.
